Mafalda is a Argentina comic created by cartoonist
Quino in 1964, whose main personage is a middle class girl with a committed
attitude to the world. Appeared in
comics in Argentine newspapers from 1964 to 1973, and she was also very popular
in Latin America in general, Spain, Italy, France and other European countries.
The comic has been translated to thirty languages.
Mafalda is a Argentine girl with a typical family,
this family is comprised by her parents and one brother called Guille. She has a
group of friends and she shares with them in the school and some vacations. She
hates the soup and normally she meditates about world situation and the social
distinctions.
Mafalda want to see the world different, better than
current one, she reflects the reality she keeps in mind the sixties social-politics
circumstance,the
most important problems for her are the hunger and the wars. Her priorities are
the woman social progress and equality of opportunities. She expresses her
comments with her mother and Susanita's friend; moreover she has critical
discussions with her friend: Libertad. Mafalda wants to contribute to the world
peace; she want to work into United Nations.
In
spite of her short age, she comprehends the ideal world in accordance to her
world's friends, with her pessimism about the differences of social classes and
the problems about the values. She shows that the ideal world won't be complete
if we continue in the same way
